England and Welsh Pitted in the Same Group for 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia

The group draw was conducted by rugby icons such as former All Black Dan Carter.

England together with Wales have been drawn in an identical group for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, promising a major pool stage encounter in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw mirrors their famous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 tournament, where Wales' victory at Twickenham contributed to the hosts' shock early exit.

Other Notable Pool Draws

The Irish alongside Scotland have likewise been drawn in a group once again, just as the situation from the 2023 edition. In that tournament, Ireland secured a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to progress to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Portugal, who each made a strong impression as surprise packages in the last World Cup, complete that Pool D.

Notably, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet defending champions and world number one South Africa before the showpiece match, presuming the Springboks win their own group.

Knockout Implications

Should the groups conclude according to the current global standings, other leading contenders like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from both the English and Ireland until the championship decider.

In that scenario, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on that half of the elimination bracket as England and Ireland.

Tournament Hosts Draw Major Fixture

Tournament hosts the Wallabies have been drawn together with their great rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will kick off the World Cup in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at jump-start the competition.

Elsewhere, reigning champions South Africa have been paired with the Azzurri, Georgia and Romania. The French team are grouped with Japan, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Expanded Format for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Spain and Canada as the tournament grows to 24 teams from the twenty who competed in 2023.

This edition will feature a last-16 round for the first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's biggest beasts initially, they will have to face the runner-up from Pool B – probably Italy – in the last 16.

A total of four of the remaining six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the pool stages.
